Gary grew up in Thorndale, Texas. He joined Thorndale Volunteer FD in 1994 and decided to make a career in the Fire Service. He graduated from the Taylor Fire Academy in 1996. He is also a full-time Firefighter with the Travis County ESD 6 Hudson Bend Fire Department.
