Community Risk Reduction (CRR) actively balances emergency response with data-driven, focused prevention. We analyze local information to identify and prioritize fire and life safety risks, and then work to mitigate them, prevent incidents, and partner with the community to reach everyone in our service area.
In other words, CRR is a process to help communities find out what their risks are and develop a plan to reduce those risks. It is often referred to as “getting ahead of the call.”
We all have a part in building and maintaining a safer, more connected community. We encourage our community members to stay informed and get involved.

- Fall and Fire Prevention for Elderly
- How to Prevent Falls
- Remove boxes, newspapers, electrical cords and phone cords from walkways and stairs. Move coffee tables and magazine racks and plant stands from walkways.
- Use nonslip mats in your bathtub or shower; consider using a bath seat. Install grab bars in your shower and tub.
- Remove or tape down loose rugs.
- Turn on lights before using the stairs.
- Make sure you have handrails on both sides of stairways.
- Place night lights between your bedroom and the bathroom.
- To prevent falls, exercise to stay strong and have your vision checked.

- Home Safety Visits
- Sam Bass Fire Departments is pleased to offer home safety visits for all community members. The purpose of these visits is to make your home safer. A professional may be able to identify items in your home that create a safety hazard.
- Once a community member completes the request for a Home Safety Visit, a member of the SBFD Community Risk Reduction team will reach out to gather additional information about the goals for the visit; the CRR team member will then coordinate with the resident a time and day for the Home Safety Visit.
- Home Safety Visits typically last about 30-45 minutes. The CRR team members will identify themselves at the door at the appointment time previously agreed upon. The team members will then conduct the Home Safety Visit and provide the community member with feedback upon completion.
- Sam Bass Fire Departments is pleased to offer home safety visits for all community members. The purpose of these visits is to make your home safer. A professional may be able to identify items in your home that create a safety hazard.
- Note: You must live within the Sam Bass Fire District (ESD#2 and ESD#9) in order to be serviced by our Community Risk Reduction Team. Please see the maps below to see if you live within our coverage area.
